Marilyn's Section: Integral City
Integral City embraces 12 kinds of evolutionary intelligences. Resilient cities adapt best when all these intelligences are Integrated in a
whole systems approach.
Drawing on insights from her book, Integral City: Evolutionary Intelligences for the Human Hive, Dr. Marilyn Hamilton will explore how people, events, life conditions
and challenges contribute to life in the “human hive” -- the most complex system ever created by humans.
Participants will examine the Map that enables us to see Integral Capacity at all levels of scale in the city – individuals, families, groups,
organizations, neighbourhoods and sectors. We will explore the phenomenon of Meshworks that reveals the complexity of the relationships that weave the
city’s capacities together. And we will consider how resilience emerges in the Human Hive from the interplay of the city’s capacities and relationships.
